Psalm for a Dark Night
Psalm for a Dark Night: Psalm 71
It is no question that every person that is living or has ever lived, goes through trials in his life…Christians are not excluded
The question is, how will a Christian handle those trials when they come
David wrote most of the book of Psalms that you have in your Bible, and most scholars agree that Psalm 71 is one of those Psalms…so I’m approaching the study of this Psalm from that perspective
David had his share of trials in life and we can learn from David how he handled those trials

I want to look this morning at a story that Jesus shared in the book of Luke: it is the parable of the Good Samaritan
Many times, when we hear a story on the news where someone went out of their way to help someone who was in trouble, they are often referred to as a “Good Samaritan”

I don’t think any of us would disagree that there is a law of gravity
Unless you go up in airplane, you can’t fly…and even that airplane has to fight the law of gravity to get off the ground
Unfortunately, most people (even many Christians) do not take God’s spiritual laws as seriously as they do His physical laws
One spiritual law that is stated clearly in Scripture is the Harvest Law

The last few weeks we have been talking about what the signs are that you and I have spiritual life in us
We have talked about how you and I should be representatives of God on this earth: we are the salt and the light of Jesus
We spoke last Sunday about how we can have peace in this turbulent world that we live in by prayerful trust in Jesus
But being representatives of God on this earth as salt and light and living a peaceful life in a turbulent world: we have to be committed to Christ

Philippians 4:4–7 (ESV)
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Our country is in dire need

Worn Out Knees: Living a Yielded Life by Prayer
In his book, “Does Prayer Make a Difference”, Phillip Yancy gives this account of the power of prayer:
